Journal Entry Monday September 7, 2026

I watched two movies yesterday.

I watched the movie Audition several years ago, and it freaked me out so bad that I forgot what it was about.

Last Friday I bought the book and the book wasn’t so bad, so I decided to watch the movie again. It freaked me out again.

There is a book that I have read more than once that is one of my favorite books, it’s called We Have Always Lived in the Castle, and was written by Shirley Jackson.

It came out in 2019 and must have been lost in the COVID shuffle of the time because I don’t remember it even coming out until yesterday. It popped up in my weird Amazon Prime list as a movie I might like.

It was excellent. Directed by Stacie Passon, it is true to the book. It doesn’t add a storyline like The Haunting of Hill House, which is not at all like Shirley Jackson’s book.

The character of Charlotte, played by Alexandra Daddario, is exactly how I thought of Charlotte in the book, and Crispin Glover’s portrayal of Uncle Julian is exactly how I thought of Uncle Julian in the book. Taissa Farmiga is Merikat, and for some reason I thought of her as very young in the book, but Farmiga does a very good job as well.

Ok that’s all for me today.

Have a great Labor Day.
