Remember MoMo?
I didn’t either.
Months and months ago, I was at the Grapevine Mills Mall with my sons. They have this Peppa Pig experience there, and we somehow got on the subject of Peppa Pig. My boys had said they never watched it, but they have a little half-brother who was a fan.
So I said, “Wasn’t there something about a demon in Peppa Pig that made kids do bad things?”
My boys didn’t know and were all very certain that the makers of Peppa Pig would not put demons in the show.
I replied, “Oh yeah, it was totally not true. There were no demons. It was a rumor, but it made the news and everything.”
They didn’t believe me.
Last night I rented Backrooms, which was just ok, but when I was searching for Backrooms, I saw this movie called MoMo that piqued my interest. After I watched Backrooms, I went back to the MoMo movie.
It was a short film, and the creepy character looked vaguely familiar to me, so after I did an internet search for the MoMo movie and found the hoax, I was like That’s it! That’s the Peppa Pig thing!
It was all a hoax, but the hoax was that the character pictured above would infiltrate videos on YouTube made for children, one of them being Peppa Pig, and convince them to do increasingly dangerous self-harm things in secret. If they didn’t complete these challenges, then the character would post their parents’ personal information online.
I Remember this making it to the news and there was a lady that was quoted saying, “My kids will never watch Peppa Pig, or have any of the merchandise. We can’t have demons hurting and controlling our children.”
So that’s not exactly what she said, but it is close, and she was really passionate about it. A few days later, it came out that it never happened.
I wonder if that lady changed her mind after that and let her kids watch Peppa Pig. In my mind, she went to extremes and forced them to watch only Peppa Pig videos. She also showered them with Peppa Pig merchandise and took them to the Peppa Pig Experience at the Grapevine Mills Mall.
All the while, the kids hated Peppa Pig and begged their mother to stop. Or she didn’t have kids at all, but she watched the videos and bought the merchandise and went to the Experience on her own and freaked people out.
In reality, though, she probably stuck to not letting them watch the Peppa Pig cartoon. They were all grown anyway, so it didn’t matter.
Ok well, I’m done. Y’all have a good day.
