I had to take a break from my fiction for a few days because I have been very sick.

Every year from February until about September, I have a constant and persistent headache that transforms into congestion and a runny nose, itchy eyes, a sore throat, and general discomfort. It makes me cranky and intolerable.

The doctor I have been seeing is referring me to an ENT/allergist this time because we need to figure out what I’m allergic to and possibly get me some allergy shots or allergy drops to alleviate my discomfort.

I have been dealing with this for pretty much my entire life, and I have never once seen an allergist. I know, weird, right?

I even wrote a short story once, entirely inspired by my headaches.

It was about a woman who gets severe headaches and blacks out. When she wakes up in the morning, she is covered in dirt, with no memory of how she became covered in dirt.

Then, in her neighborhood, bushes and flowers that people grow in their yards start to go missing. The woman wonders if she may be the one stealing them. She does wake up covered in dirt. She is also very full.

She ends up searching her backyard and her shed, but there is no sign of the plants. That’s when she realizes she eats them. Well, that and security camera footage showing her eating someone’s vegetable garden.

This was all inspired by my allergies, and when I was a kid, my dad had these marigolds that he planted in our yard. They were beautiful and grew into these big bushes. He won awards for them. Late at night, someone dug up one of the bushes and stole them. When we woke up the next morning, there was a big hole in his marigold bushes.

I never understood why they only took just one. My guess was to plant them, so I hope whoever did it was never able to grow them.

Anyway, I got a prescription for Singulair, and the warnings on the little pharmacy paper you get said to call your doctor if you feel sadness, depression, or FEAR from taking the medicine.

Tonight I will take my Singulair, be afraid, and write another excerpt of my story.
