I woke up today thinking it was Friday. I guess it kind of is though, because I’m off tomorrow, so this week Thursday can be Friday.
I’m also off Monday so I’m going to have a good four day weekend.
When I originally asked for the time off I asked for Thursday but I really wanted Monday. I thought everyone was going to ask for Monday but they didn’t they all wanted Thursday, I was like great can I have Monday instead?
I’m the only one who asked for Monday.
I remember a trainer once asked us if we could have one extra day off each week which one would we choose, EVERYONE in the training class chose Friday. Not me though, I chose Monday.
I remember them all trying to change my mind. They were like ‘If you have Friday off you have an early three day weekend.’
I said, ‘If you have Monday off you have a three day weekend and you never have to work Monday again.’
No one got it, don’t people hate Mondays? Isn’t that still a thing?
When I worked for the city, there was an officer who was so angry he had to work weekends, but he had Monday and Tuesday off. He was fairly a new officer so going into this I don’t know what he was thinking, did he think criminals took Saturday and Sunday off?
Any way I was talking to him one day about it and I told him he had the best two days of the week off, Monday and Tuesday. He could shop without crowds. Or just sit at the pool when it was summer with no one there. He complained to my supervisors about me, then they moved him somewhere else because he said he couldn’t work with me, this still boggles my mind to this day.
He also didn’t last long, he left after about a year and went to work somewhere else.
I think this all is a result of people not wanting to wait and make the best of the situation they are dealt. If that guy had stayed and worked his schedule he would have eventually had weekends off, but he couldn’t get past not getting what he wanted so he quit.
I guess that is the problem, I’ve noticed especially the past few years. People increasingly getting mad because they aren’t immediately getting what they want. I’ve worked with a few people who are fantastic people but they can’t get over the fact that they can’t do things their own way.
I have two examples.
One lady I worked with where I do now had been working from home her entire working career, I don’t know where but it must have been places without any real rules or they hadn’t established clear rules for their work from home people.
Any way the first thing she got upset about was being recorded. She said it was illegal for them to record us while we were working and talking to the people who called. Um no, it is not, it is illegal for them to record us when we aren’t working, however, that’s not what they do, also we all signed a document about the recording when we were hired and there are countless signs all over the building that are visible when we are in the office stating we are recorded.
Plus recording calls would happen if we were fully in office.
So there was that, then her breaks and the down time in between calls.
She would take 30 to 40 minutes on her 15 and 45 on her 30. Then there is the after call work, which is the time after you are done with a call that you document what was talked about during the call. It was supposed to just be 2 minutes for most cases, hers were topping out at 20.
She got in trouble for this quite often but she didn’t even try to change because she said she did this at previous jobs and they didn’t care.
I think that they did care, and that’s why she had previous jobs but that’s just my thinking.
Then there was a younger guy. He was on personal video calls all day long. He was on my team and when we were in office he sat behind me and every time I turned around there was some strange person on his phone in a video call. I unintentionally contributed to him getting fired.
I really didn’t mean to but I went to a meeting with my supervisor and I told her that turning around and seeing someone on his video calls was really starting to bother me, she didn’t know this was happening. The next day he was gone.
Whoops.
He also said though that he had done this before and no one ever told him it was not ok, but as before I feel like someone did and he ignored them and that’s why he also had previous jobs.
Ok I think I’m done. I had a lot on my mind today.
