I stand just to the right of the door, and calmly as I can yell, “What do you want?” and cringe at how shaky my voice sounds.
The man thing moves around. I don’t know if he sees me. I can’t see his face. He holds up his left arm, which is what he was using to tap on the door.
It’s a huge hand, and it’s covered with what looks like a metal glove. He knocks on the other window, ‘tap, tap, tap.’ He kicks the door, ‘thump, thump,’ and starts laughing.
It’s a harsh laugh, it’s not joyful but menacing. The laugh shakes the door, the windows rattle, and the door shakes.
“WHAT DO YOU WANT?” I yell again, my voice stronger now.
The big dog has positioned itself in front of the door and is growling. The large figure puts his face to the window and says, “I want to come inside.”
His voice sends shivers through my whole body. The big dog growls deeper, bares his teeth, and squares up with the door.
“You are not coming inside,” I say and step back a little farther into the kitchen.
I can see his face. It’s covered in scars, and he has yellow, jagged teeth. His eyes are black. There is a hood covering his head and bushy hair sticking out around the edges of the hood. He starts to laugh again, his breath fogging the glass of the window.
He looks right at me and says, “I will come inside, and you can’t stop me.”
He starts shaking the door so hard I think it’s going to come off its hinges. The entire time, he is laughing that horrible laugh.
I cover my ears and sink down, leaning back against the kitchen cabinets, wondering what I am going to do next, when suddenly it stops.
The laughing, the doors shaking, all of it stops.
The sudden silence leaves me dumbfounded. I slowly stand up, still very shaky, and look around the corner. No one is there.
I look at the dog, the dog looks at me, both of us confused. What just happened? Where did he go?
Taking a deep breath, knowing what I need to do, I open the back door, and the dog runs out while I follow behind. I have to make sure he is gone.
Come back tomorrow to see if he’s still outside my house.
Enjoy Friday, everyone. ๐
