Journal Entry Thursday April 9, 2026

I don’t have a lot to say today, so I am making something up.

NOTE: I AM A HORROR STORY AND MOVIE FAN.

My day was just starting when I heard it, ‘tap, tap, tap, thump, thump.’

Sitting up in bed, I look around. I see the dogs, the dogs look back at me when it comes again, ‘tap, tap, tap, thump, thump.’

I start to take note of my surroundings. The bed is empty next to me, so that means my husband isn’t home. The big dog is in the bedroom with me, so that confirms my husband isn’t here and not somewhere else in the house.

It also means he is not making the noise, and just as I think it, it comes again, ‘tap, tap, tap, thump, thump.’ The big dog starts barking.

The lights seem to get dimmer, the air in the room thicker, my chest constricts. I can feel my heart beating through my entire body. The big dog keeps barking.

Breathing as deep as I can, I get out of bed, put on my slides, then again, ‘tap, tap, tap, thump, thump.’

The big dog growls. He’s looking at the bedroom door. “Let’s go,” I say to him, and we walk slowly to the bedroom door.

The front room, that’s what we call the room just outside our bedroom. It’s the room with the front door. It’s dark, but just as we get to the bedroom door the sound comes again, ‘tap, tap, tap, thump, thump.’

It’s coming from my left, the back door. I turn slowly and squint, but it’s all dark. Somehow, when I turned out all the lights last night, they stayed that way. This never happens. Somebody always comes behind me and turns on a light and leaves that light burning. ‘Tap, tap, tap, thump, thump.’

I can’t see the back door from where I am, and I decide not to turn on any lights as I go because I figure I have the advantage if I leave them off. I look down at my big dog. He is growling in the direction of the back door.

Slowly, I creep through the center room toward the kitchen, then around the kitchen island. There is a shadowy figure at the back door.

The door is, I guess, what you consider a French door. Both sides open, but only one has a knob, and that is the only one we open and close at any given time. The figure is large, it is as tall as the window and wider than the window.

Then I watch as it knocks, ‘tap, tap, tap,’ then kicks, ‘thump, thump,’ the back door.

The big dog by my side starts barking like crazy.

What happens next? I don’t know, I’ll finish tomorrow. I have to get my son up for school.

Enjoy your day, everyone.
