I have a juicer that I bought myself for my birthday in September.
I usually rinse it out immediately after I use it because there is a lot of pulp from the fruit left behind.
Last week, or maybe even the week before, I don’t know, I used the juicer and didn’t rinse it out, and then just completely forgot it was there and that it had been used.
My oldest boy came home yesterday and took the juicer apart to clean it and the amount of fruit flies that were contained inside the juicer was unbelieveable.
They were in one of those clouds in my kitchen.
So yesterday I cleaned off all my counters and sprayed them down with vinegar. This morning there are no fruit flies.
I wondered where they came from because there weren’t any before this incident. I thought maybe they were on the fruit already when it was purchased.
I was right.
So every time you bring fruit home from the store, you are also bringing home microscopic fruit fly eggs.
The tips to prevent them say to store fruit in the fridge instead of on the counter. I thought washing them would do it, since I wash off my fruit before I eat it or use it in the juicer, but no, store in the fridge.
So that is my fruit fly story. Hope you enjoyed it, have a good Thursday, everyone.
