I did not work on my picture this weekend because I have been reading.

I got a book of horror stories yesterday from Half-Price Books. It has several short stories written by some of the writers of the classics, Bram Stoker, W.W. Jacobs, Edgar Allan Poe and Mary Shelley. There are more but those are some that I think most people know.

I have read five so far, Bram Stoker’s is the first a story he wrote called The Invisible Giant which reminds me of the story of Lot from the bible. My favorites from the ones I have read are Berenice, by Edgar Allan Poe about a man obsessed with a woman’s teeth,

I also loved WW Jacobs story The Toll House, four men spend the night in a haunted house and by morning only three are left.

I love these because they are from a time before movies and phones and all of the things we take advantage of today. The reader of these stories had to use their imagination to see the monster which is something that today very rarely happens.

There is also an element of suspense to these stories that I think has been lost, now there is so much gore in horror movies, which is fine I’m still a fan, but suspense still to me is creepier and more scary than blood spurting everywhere.

Today after work I am going to clean, then work on my picture and finish off the night with my book.
