Last night I was tired and cranky so I decided to take a bath and relax.

I get in the tub, and have my head phones on, waiting for my podcast to load when I hear, knock, knock, knock. “Yeah?” I say thinking someone needed to use the bathroom. No answer.

Then again knock, knock, knock “Is someone knocking?” no answer, then again knock, knock, knock. “Are you knocking on the bathroom door?” I ask again no answer. So I put my headphones on and relaxed in the tub and ignored the knocking.

It wasn’t until I got out of the tub that I realized it was fireworks. The city where I live has their firework celebration at the park that is down the street from my house so we get a good show every year and we don’t ever leave the house. I just didn’t know it was going to be on the 3rd and not the 4th. Dan says they do it on the 3rd every year but I always thought it was the 4th.

I had to borrow shampoo from my son because I’m out so after my bath I went to his room to give it back to him. Knock, knock, knock, no answer so I go in thinking maybe he’s in the bathroom. “I’m putting your shampoo on your desk!” I call out, no answer.

Weird, I go back to my room and sit for a minute then get dressed then go back to his room. Knock, knock, knock, no answer. I go in, “Are you here?” no answer so I go my youngest son he’s sitting at his desk “Where’s your brother?” I ask him.

“I think he’s in the bathroom,” he says.

So I’m like ok maybe the tacos I made for dinner didn’t sit with him well or something. So I text him, the kid always has his phone. No answer. So I call, goes to voicemail. I’m like ok, maybe he went to go watch the fireworks.

Just as I’m about to call the police and tell them he’s been kidnapped he calls back, he did indeed go see the fireworks and didn’t tell anyone.

Ugh, kids am I right?

I mean he’s not a kid anymore he’s 23 and can go places without telling anyone if he wants, he just usually doesn’t he usually always tells us where he’s going.

He’s terrible at answering calls or texts though, I blame me for that, I’m bad at it also.

I have two very memorable Fourth of July Celebrations.

One was when I was 9 or 10 and before the city passed the ordinance that you can’t shoot fireworks off in city limits. My dad would always shoot them off in our back yard. This year he lit a rocket and instead of it going up and exploding it went to the side and exploded in the tall grass of the empty lot next door.

There was a fire and dad tried to put it out but the Firemen came anyway and put it out, we all had a good laugh.

The next one was 2020. The pandemic had everything shut down but the city of Fort Worth was all over the news that year with their huge fireworks show that you would be able to see for miles. They didn’t have any in person events but they were going to do fireworks from Panther Island.

Dan and I went to downtown Fort Worth that year to watch and the city was right they were huge fireworks. I’m not sure how far away Panther Island is from down town but you could feel the kabooms in your chest. It was really cool.

Ok that’s pretty much all I’ve got here in Texas.

Everyone enjoy your fourth.
