I am finally getting my bloodwork done today.
I was ordered for me two weeks ago, but I had to find a place to do it that was close and covered by my insurance.
I remember once years ago I applied for a job that required me to get a TB test. At the time I had two jobs so I was working all the time, I never really had a day off. Also I only had a week to get it done and that wasn’t the only test there were others, but the TB test is what was the most annoying.
I don’t know if anyone has ever had a TB test or why the job I was applying to was so worried that someone who was coming to work for them had tuberculosis, but, they inject this fluid under the skin in your arm and after two days you have to come back and get it checked. If there is still a bump and it’s a hard bump, you either have TB or have been exposed to TB.
So, the testing place was an hour away from where I lived at the time. I took a Monday off from both jobs and drove the hour to the testing site. They administered the test and told me I had to come back in 48-72 hours to get it checked and if I missed that window, I would have to do the test again.
I explained to the nurse who gave it to me my schedule and how on top of two jobs I had three kids and the testing site was an hour away, I asked if I could at least make an appointment because that would be easier.
She laughed, like one of those loud can’t breathe type of laughs like my request was so ridiculous, and said, “sure we will make special arrangements just for you.”
So, no then, I mean that’s all you had to say lady.
So I waited until Thursday, by that time the bump was gone, I mean how many people now days do you know who have had, or been around, someone who had tuberculosis?
I took the morning off and drove an hour back to the clinic.
The same nurse who had administered it, told me I waited too long and she would need to consult with the doctor to see if I needed to get another one. I flat out refused. I got the initial test that Monday and came back Thursday, two days later. She said that was too long of a time span, then, she bitched me out.
She went on and on about how a mother should be raising their kids and not working so much she can’t be with them, and how I should also be making my health a priority and if I can’t come back to get a simple TB test checked then I wasn’t properly caring for myself and on, and on for almost five minutes.
By that time a man in a white lab coat had shown up, I think it was a doctor I don’t know but he took one look and said, “She’s fine, TB test is negative, you can go.”
I left, and after all that I didn’t get that job, which is probably a good thing because it sounds like the may have a problem with people getting tuberculosis and I absolutely don’t want that.
Any way have a good day everyone.
