I have many family traditions I have tried to start with my boys and some have stuck, some have only happened once.

One year I had decided I wasn’t going to put up a Christmas tree, because the one we had was old and falling apart and the lights that were on it were burnt out and didn’t work anymore. My boys had much to say about this, it was after all a family tradition and we couldn’t go without a Christmas tree.

I had unintentionally made this a family tradition. Every year we would decorate our own ornaments and put them on the tree with the other ones. I have so many ornaments now that usually we don’t have enough room on the tree for all of them.

Really the reason wasn’t because I didn’t want to have one, it was just during the pandemic and I needed a new tree and I couldn’t really go out and shop for one. So I ordered one with lights from Michael’s online and went to the store and waited in the parking lot for them to put it in my car. We didn’t make ornaments that year, but we put up the tree.

Now I make sure to do this every year, and I make sure to have supplies on hand so we can all make ornaments.
