Think back on your most memorable road trip.
When I was about 12 my family and I decided to drive from Joshua Texas to Wichita Kansas to visit my grandpa and my aunt’s and uncles.
The drive there was uneventful at first but some time in the middle of Oklahoma it started to rain. It was pouring so my dad who was driving slowed down and he was using the cars heater to clear the windshield. That made the car so hot and soon we were all complaining so dad turned off the heater and cracked a window instead.
The next thing I remember is the car spinning, then stopping. I remember being on the side of the freeway and not understanding what had just happened but my head was pounding.
A State Trooper took all of us to a hotel in Perry Oklahoma, they let us stay there for free because we were in an accident. I remember my mom being so relieved. I don’t remember this, but my sister said someone tried to get in our room in the middle of the night. I’ve never slept well, but that night I slept hard. I think she was dreaming.
My uncle came the next day and picked us all up and took us the rest of the way. Our car stayed in Oklahoma and we stayed in Kansas way longer than anyone wanted because our car was getting fixed. I did get to see my grandpa one more time that was good. Also when we were in Perry, there was some kind of celebration and the middle school cheerleaders had on t-shirts that had just initials for their school PMS, my dad thought that was hilarious.
